It seems that names from yore are making a come back in fashion these days... Parvati, Lalita, Padma.....
I am beginning to develop a fondness towards them, the ones with the great mythological histories. And yes, there is a strength and sexiness in the different names for Parvati, dont you think?
Lalita -- the light of Shiva's eyes
Uma/ Gauri - the golden one
Parvati - the gentle mother
Shyama - the dusky beauty
I wish I had one of those names. Maybe I'll name my kid one of those names...and have her hate me for choosing such an ancient name in the modern world.

How did you miss your favourite "Manimegalai" :D
I agree with you... our Tamil and Sanskrit names are beautiful! I think Arabic names sound lovely and have nice meanings too: Azhar (blossoms), Hayam (delirious in love), Farah (Joy)
For starters, I am trying to come up with a Tamil name for Blondie :D
>> I wish I had one of those names
Lalitha?
Re-read the meaning :D. When you narrate this, please tell him it was my idea :D
Gauri could be the equivalent, no?
The blond hair color is kinds golden... so Uma or Gauri can be the substitute :-D
Oh for Blondie? Yea, makes sense :)
Remember the old news abt the cat Oscar that predicted the last hours of patients?: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/07/25/death.cat.ap/index.html
Someone resent it to me sometime back, appo than I noticed the doctor's name: Dr. David Dosa. Dosa!!! Got me thinking - "Idli" is a good name :D
I always wanted to name my kids from historical tamil novels names. I once had reserved the name "Nayanthara" until the actress was named the same :(. For all you might know.. your daughter will love you for naming her with a meaningful name compared to all those Rias and Sias.
hey, Deepthi can be looked at as the Goddess's name, theriyuma?? It actually denotes something very subtle..
Isnt the Goddess a female personification for the effulgence that dispels darkness(ignorance) ? :-)
I think Deepthi = Prabhavati which is the Goddess's name..
Apram, I think Parvati means "Daughter of the mountain" or something. Her mythological dad was Himavat / Himavan...
Apram, you'll like
"Shivaradhya", for the obvious reason - She Who Is Worshipped By Shiva :-)))
EL,
You tha gal! Can you pliss talk to my parents and ask them to change my name?
